Curators of Inclusion

The Network
Implementing approaches that promote community participation is essential to the C.O.I.N strategy.

These initiatives can ignite curiosity and encourage local audiences to delve into the context and importance of artifacts, resulting in a stronger connection to the venue through engagement with the displayed materials.

Transparency in curatorial practices is essential. Institutions should be open about the decisions behind their exhibitions, including the selection and interpretation of objects. This openness builds trust and invites dialogue, allowing for a more meaningful exchange between the institution and its audience. In this way, public-facing institutions can create spaces where curiosity thrives alongside respect for the authenticity and integrity of their collections.
These principles have been shaped by many, including participants of the New Dialogues research project, 'Outsider' artists, healthcare professionals, archivists, carers, researchers, advocates and activists - they offer a foundation to individual and institutional development.
